Counselling

What is counselling?

The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) defines counselling/therapy as, “umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing

How can counselling help?

Counselling provides time in a safe and confidential space to reflect on your life and relationships, the possibilities for change, and to clarify how best to move forward. Counselling may help with the following issues, especially when attempts at self-help or the support from family and friends have not worked or is not available:

  • bereavement and loss
  • clarifying personal, career and life goals
  • coping with bullying
  • issues related to personal or sexual identity
  • life transitions (e.g. changing jobs; adjusting to health problems; retirement from work)
  • making an important decision
  • personal relationships (insecurity, jealously, communication problems)
  • redundancy or difficulties at work
  • termination/abortion/miscarriage

What happens in counselling?

Counselling generally begins with you having the opportunity to talk about your concerns. The emphasis is on developing a shared understanding of the issues you would like to address and then developing some specific goals that you would like to achieve. Counselling is a supportive process that can go at your pace and focus on the things that are important to you such as finding a solution to a specific problem in the present, exploring your past experiences and coming to terms with past hurts, or making sense of your feelings and exploring the possibilities for changing in ways that will make things better and improve the quality of your life.

How do I access counselling?

Please don't hesitate to get in touch to book an appointment for an initial face-to-face consultation or to have a free, no-obligation telephone consultation to discuss your concerns and find out how counselling could help you to get your life back on track

What are the fees for counselling?

I offer a Free 15-minute Telephone Call to discuss your concerns and clarify how I might be able to help before booking an appointment.

Alternatively, you may wish to book a no-obligation Initial Assessment Consultation for a detailed assessment of your problems/needs and receive an outline plan of how therapy could help you overcome your problems. At the end of the assessment consultation, you will have an opportunity to discuss the type(s) of therapy that may best suit your needs, and be given an estimate to the number of sessions needed so that you will be clear about the investment you are making in your health and well-being in terms of the overall cost of your therapy, and also in relation to the time and effort required to get your life back on track.

The no-obligation assessment consultation may help you decide if you would like to engage in therapy at this stage and whether or not I am the right therapist for you.

Initial (no-obligation) Assessment Consultation- £85

Counselling for Individuals - £85 for each one hour session

Couples Counselling - Please note that I do not offer couples counselling at present.

Fees for counselling reflect my status as a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), extensive clinical experience and the value of the service I offer to my clients. If you choose to have counselling with me, you can be assured of a high quality service and that my training and experience means that I am equipped with the skills and knowledge to help you to overcome your problems as quickly as possible.

Payment can be made by cash or cheque at the end of each session or via bank transfer in advance or each session
