Life Coaching

What is life coaching?

'Realising the best of you'

Life Coaching Scotland

Life Coaching can help to inspire and motivate you to achieve your goals, and realise your ambitions and potential. It mainly focuses on the future and on the possibilities for creating a more fulfilling and satisfying life and can be particularly helpful if you are interested in self-improvement and personal and professional development. In this respect, life coaching is different from psychological therapy , which is more concerned with helping people to address distressing emotional and psychological problems.

What can life coaching help with?

Life coaching can help in many different aspects of life. I specialise in working with people who want to make positive changes in the following areas of their lives:

  • Achieving a better balance between their work and personal life
  • Building resilience to reduce and manage stress
  • Enhancing personal effectiveness by learning new skills in relation to:
  • Overcoming procrastination
  • Improving interpersonal communication and relationships
  • Assertiveness
  • Overcoming performance anxiety associated with giving work-related presentations, public speaking and stage fright (e.g. for actors, musicians)

My life coaching approach

My approach is based on psychological principles and change strategies which underpin Cognitive Behavioural/Mindfulness-Based Therapies and Solution Focused Therapy. The focus, therefore, is on helping people to:

  • Create a detailed and hope-inspiring vision of the changes they desire
  • Define clear and achievable goals as steps toward realising these changes
  • Gather the resources they will need to achieve their goals
  • Uncover and deal with self-defeating thinking and limiting beliefs, and replacing them with a problem-solving approach to life
  • Take concrete steps to achieve their goals
  • Evaluate progress and build on past successes
  • Anticipate and plan how to deal with future challenges and maintain positive changes

Essentially, my coaching approach is about working with individuals to create new opportunities and possibilities for change and inspiring and motivating them to take the necessary steps toward creating more rewarding and fulfilling lives.

What happens in life coaching sessions?

At the start, the emphasis in sessions is on clarifying the areas of your life you would like to change, as well identifying your hopes and goals for the future. Once that is clear, the focus is on developing and acting on a plan to help you move forward with your life.

SkypeCoaching sessions are generallly delivered via telephone or Skype call and last between 50 minutes and one hour.

In addition to your live coaching sessions, you will have access to a tailor-made Online Coaching Programme, with weekly written feedback to help you to stay focused on bringing about the positive changes you desire. For example, one of the features of this online coahcing programme is the 'Weekly Accountability' Module. Each week you simply write down your responses to some reflective questions, which are set by your coach, to help you review your challenges, achievements, and overall progress of the past week. And then you use this learing to plan ahead for the next week.  Your coach will provide written supportive feedback on what you have written to help you to build on your success and find ways to overcome any obstacles to moving forward. In my experience, clients who take the time each week to do this are more likely to to see faster and more sustained progress towards their goals.

Sessions are confidential, including the online coaching, and take the form of a collaborative partnership.

Prior to commencing your coaching sessions, I will agree a written ‘contract’ which will set out the nature of the coahcing you are committing to and also address issues related to confidentiality and payment. with you for a set number of sessions, which can be extended if required.
